About Jamie

My name is Jamie Magdic (she/her) and I am a registered dietitian, disordered eating and eating disorder specialist, owner and founder of a 12+ group practice of eating disorder and body image counselors who help hundreds of clients weekly heal their relationship with body and food.

I am a recovered clinician recovered from my own disordered eating and body image shaming journey.

I am obsessed with helping people free themselves from body image distress and this unrealistic and downright mean dialogue that causes distrust and shame around body image affecting every relationship in our life from food, exercise, friends, family, partners, to our complex and nuanced relationship with ourselves!

Everything I would like to share with you is thoughtfully wrapped up in my “True Body Image Freedom for EVERYbody” coaching program. This program encompasses the hard practices, shifts, conversations, and discomforts so much of us go through to heal our relationship with our bodies. These collections of practices, strategies, and reflections have come from working with tons of clients and other body image and nutrition professionals and I want the world to have it. I want to share it with you.

I am so grateful I am here and able to constantly to help others in an area I am so passionate about!

My Philosophy: My Beliefs and How I Coach Clients

Holistic Well-Being:

  • My approach centers around a broader perspective that goes beyond fixating on weight loss, focusing instead on holistic well-being. Recognizing health as a multidimensional concept, it encompasses physical, mental, and emotional aspects. By focusing on whole being health, we ensure a comprehensive consideration of elements contributing to overall well-being.

Celebrating Diverse Body Types and Sizes:

  • People vary in shapes and sizes, and well-being isn't synonymous with conforming to a specific weight standard. Acknowledging and respecting diverse body types forms an integral part of creating a safe, harm-reducing, and inclusive approach to health.

Behavioral Focus for Long-Term Success:

Shifting the focus to behaviors promotes sustainable lifestyle changes rather than short-term fixes. Embracing healthy behaviors, such as making nourishing dietary choices, engaging in regular physical activity, and ensuring adequate sleep, contributes to long-term well-being. Unlike restrictive diets centered on weight loss, behavior-based approaches encourage habits that can be maintained over time.

Psychological Well-Being:

  • Recognizing the significance of psychological well-being in the pursuit of health, the philosophy discourages constant fixation on weight loss, which can lead to stress, anxiety, and negative self-perception. Prioritizing positive behaviors fosters a healthier relationship with oneself, promoting mental and emotional well-being.

Behavioral Change as a Positive Goal:

  • Making positive behavior changes becomes the primary goal, encouraging individuals to set realistic and achievable goals related to their behaviors. The emphasis is on progress and positive changes rather than an arbitrary number on the scale.

Addressing Underlying Health Factors:

  • Focusing on behaviors allows for a more comprehensive examination of underlying health factors. Instead of assuming weight loss as the sole indicator of improved health, attention can be directed toward managing chronic conditions, improving cardiovascular health, prioritizing mental health and trusting relationships with food and body, and addressing individual health needs.

Cultivating a Positive Relationship with Food:

  • The philosophy promotes cultivating a positive relationship with food, shifting away from labeling certain foods as "good" or "bad." The focus is on mindful eating, intuitive choices, and nourishing the body, contributing to a healthier attitude towards food and reducing the likelihood of disordered eating patterns.

Individualized Approach:

  • Recognizing health as a highly individualized journey, the philosophy advocates for personalized strategies. Tailoring health-promoting behaviors to individual preferences, lifestyles, and needs ensures a more sustainable and enjoyable path to well-being.

Lifelong Habits Over Short-Term Solutions:

  • Emphasizing behavior change underscores the importance of developing lifelong habits. Unlike quick fixes and fad diets that often yield temporary results, sustained behavior changes contribute to lasting improvements in health. The philosophy encourages a mindset shift from immediate gratification to long-term well-being.

Promoting Positive Self-Image:

  • By focusing on behaviors rather than weight, the philosophy promotes a positive self-image. Individuals are encouraged to appreciate their bodies for their functionality, strength, and resilience, irrespective of their weight. This approach aligns with body positivity and self-acceptance, fostering a healthier and more compassionate relationship with oneself.

Health at Every Size (HAES) Informed:

  • Health at Every Size (HAES) is a philosophy and movement that challenges the traditional approach to health and weight. It asserts that health is not determined by one's body size or weight but is instead influenced by various factors such as physical activity, nutrition, genetics, and mental well-being. The key principle is to promote health and well-being for individuals of all body shapes and sizes, emphasizing body diversity and rejecting weight-based discrimination.

Intuitive Eating

  • Intuitive Eating is an approach to nutrition and eating that emphasizes listening to and trusting one's body signals and internal cues for hunger, fullness, and satisfaction. It is an anti-diet philosophy that encourages a positive relationship with food, promoting self-compassion and rejecting restrictive eating patterns.

Anti-Diet

  • As an Anti-Diet Dietitian, my professional approach aligns with the principles of the Anti-Diet philosophy. I am committed to guiding individuals on a journey towards holistic well-being, rejecting the restrictive and weight-centric norms often associated with traditional dieting.
